The Script

Greetings to everyone, I am your TV host, reporting live from San Fernando, Pampanga.
Here in Barangay San Pedro seven flagellants portray Jesus Christ on his way to Calvary.
Each man has removed his shirt while carrying a heavy wooden cross on his shoulder as they walk the streets depicting the journey of Jesus Christ on his last few hours on earth.
There are many people around observing the event.  About 6,000 people, some of them tourists are grimly watching the play.
The penitents are wearing crown of thorns and are walking bare–footed  while whipping their backs.  Mixture of sweat and blood flows continuously from their back.
The flagellants and the penitents are now in the place designated as the “Calvary.”  Men dressed as Roman centurions hammer nails that have been soaked in alcohol into the palms and feet of these penitents who are nailed to the wooden cross they are carrying.
Now, we can see the wooden crosses being pushed upright.  These men will remain on the crosses far a couple of hours.
Why do these men perform this act?  They have reasons.  Some say they want to ask forgiveness for their sins.  Some say it is a form of “panata”.  Other say they hope for the recovery of their sick love one.
It is really a great sacrifice.  There is so much pain which penitents silently endure.  They are firm in their belief.  But the entire event is gruesome.
There you are, folks.  This is one of the ways Filipino Catholics observe the Lenten season.
I am your TV host (name of reporter)of WOW Philippines Network, reporting live from San Fernando, Pampanga.  Good day  and Mabuhay!
