Love
is Sacrifice
Love
is an intense feeling of deep affection. Sacrifice is an act of giving up
something. Did you know that there is a thin line between love and sacrifice?
Sacrifice in love is giving up something, or in some cases, everything, just to
make that one special person happy.
Love with sacrifice is different from
love with compromise. When sacrificing, you give up something you actually
have. It entails actual deeds and losses. In compromising, you give up
something that you want and might in fact attain. It typically entails inaction
and possible losses. This only means, when you love someone, you will give up
something or everything without taking anything in return, compromise is giving
something and gaining something in return. But in relationships, sacrifice and
compromise must be both involved.
It is really true that there is a need
to make sacrifices when it comes to love and relationships. It is when you give
up something valuable to you for the sake of something more valuable. Though
sacrifice is giving up things that are hard to let go, that’s the way how you
can express your love. When you learn how to give up, that’s the time when you
know the true acting of giving and loving.
Sacrificing for relationship should be
done wholeheartedly as one should not think that you are sacrificing for the
sake of the only person to make him/her happy but rather the both of you.
Sacrificing for a relationship is not for that special someone but for the
relationship itself. In the first place, compromising in relationships is one
also for both people, but in sacrifice, it is for the relationship.
In 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, it talks
about what love truly is. In the fifth verse, “It does not dishonor others, it
is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs”,
it is important to know that love is “not self-seeking”. You didn’t just get
into a relationship just for yourself. Love is unconditional, in a way that you
love them without any conditions. You will love them even with their
imperfections.
“For God so loved the world that He
gave His only Begotten Son. That whoever believes in Him shall not perish but
have eternal life.” –John 3:16. The biggest sacrifice because of love is the
sacrifice made by God. He gave Jesus, His Son, to save us from sins because He
loves us. Jesus, who is our King, came down and was crucified to save
us. What God did was a sacrifice out of love.
